雪城大学（Syracuse University，简称 S.U.）是一所私立男女合校、文理工并重的大学。雪城大学于1870年成立，起初是一间循道卫理－美国圣公宗学院，一年後则改为无宗派学校。主校区位于纽约州雪城，另有Syracuse University's Utica College设于纽约州Utica市。

纽约州立大学（State University of New York，简称SUNY）的环境科学与森林学院（College of Environmental Science and Forestry，简称E.S.F.）与雪城大学主校区校地相连。两校互用所有的设施及校园，甚至连课程都互通。

校报The Daily Orange创立于1903年，并于1971年独立。它属下有两间电台：WAER-FM及WERW-AM，还有一个校园电视网络HillTV。 1988年，三十五名雪城大学学生在泛美航空103航班的恐怖炸弹袭击中丧生。当时他们刚完成海外留学计划、正从欧洲回国。校方後来为他们在校园中心设置纪念碑。

一、地理位置

雪城位于纽约州正中央，素有Central New York之称，五大湖中安大略湖南方数十里的Syracuse市郊，往东南离纽约市约5个小时车程。由于高纬度及大湖效应，Syracuse的雪量均大，这也是“雪城”的由来。 雪城属于大陆性气候，四季分明。“城春飘花，城夏荫浓，城秋枫红，城冬雪隆”是最佳写照。夏季气温约介于25-30度，冬季则介于0-15度。因受“湖效应”影响，雨雪较多。初雪约在每年十一月左右，一直到来年三、四月才停。

二、学术及教学

在主校区就读的大部份为全职学生，在Utica College的大半为Part-time学生。大学部约有全职学生一万二千位，研究生约有五千六百位，其中五分之四是攻读硕士，另五分之一则为博士班学生。并另有七百名攻读法律的研究生。研究所中外国学生约有一千二百名，分别来自七十五个不同国家。雪城大学 (S.U.) 为学期制，一年共分fall, spring及summer三个学期。其中summer又分为两个section。对一般攻读硕士的学生而言，如果系上summer section有开课，又不选做论文的话，可在一年半拿到硕士学位。S.U. 每年约有一千六百位硕士、一百七十位博士以及二百位法律系学生毕业。

雪城大学为学期制，一年共分秋季班跟春季班两个学期，以及暑期班。其中暑期班又分为两个session。对一般攻读硕士的学生而言，如果系上summer session有开课，又不必写论文的话，可在1年半拿到硕士学位。

二、校区

主校区地理位置居高临下，人称 City on the Hill，可俯瞰市中心区的点点人间灯火及Onondaga Lake的湖光之美。主要校区占地约九百英亩，有建筑物三百二十四栋，其中不少是百年建筑，极具特色，有些甚至是国家注册的历史古迹。

除了主校区位于纽约州雪城之外，SU另外有分校Syracuse University’s Utica College位于纽约州Utica市。雪城大学的主要校区占地约900英亩，有建筑物324栋，其中不少是百年建筑，极具特色，有些甚至是国家注册的历史古迹。Syracuse原本以产盐为名，市名即以Salt的字根而来，由于冰河的遗迹，冰河遍布、湖光山色，景色优美。全市人口约18万左右，为一都市机能颇为完整的中型城市。在主校区就读的大部份为全职学生，在Utica College的大半为兼职学生。大学部约有全职学生12000名，研究生约有5600百位，其中五分之四是攻读硕士，另外的五分之一则为博士班学生。另有700名研究生攻读法学院。研究所中，外籍学生约有1200百名，分别来自75个不同的国家。每年约有1600位硕士、170位博士以及200位法律系学生毕业。

三、休闲娱乐

校内运动风气鼎盛，S.U.的橄榄球、篮球、棒球、长曲棍球每年均有令人刮目的表现。大部份的体育活动是在能够容纳五万人充气式屋顶的新颖体育馆(Carrier Dome)举行，并有不定期的演唱会、展览和餐会。外国学生经常获赠当季音乐、舞台剧、舞蹈表演门票，得以免费亲验美国式文化、艺术。

羽毛球、网球、排球、篮球、钓鱼、保龄球、滑雪、游泳、回力球、看录像带是这儿台湾来的同学的热门活动。遇有长假时，同学们大都自动组成各式「旅行团」，前往各处寻幽探胜，足迹遍及全美、欧洲及加拿大等地。

雪城大学的体育队伍的官方名称为the Orange，吉祥物是Otto the Orange，所有校队均参与全美高等院校运动协会（National Collegiate Athletic Association）第一区（Division I）大东部联合会（Big East Conference）的比赛。男子篮球、足球、长曲棍球在开利圆顶体育馆（全国最大的大学体育馆、美国东北部最大的体育馆）作赛。
